The End of the World!!!

House of Come-ons
Our (male) elected representatives covering themselves in glory again…

That *cough* Speech
What with Boris’ Libyan tourist information advert, and our Dear Leader’s strength and stability, this was Theresa May’s homage to “Some Mother’s Do ‘Ave ‘Em.”
Love Trumps Hate
Remainers vs Leavers, Establishment vs anti-establishment, elites vs the left-behinds. As people become increasingly polarised and hunker in their bunkers, lobbing angry grenades at each other, it feels like we’re sliding towards cultural war. Maybe it’s time to listen to look behind the rhetoric and listen to each other’s fears and take refuge in doodling. And remember…

Daemonic activity
A few days ago, Philip Pullman and the Guardian challenged people to imagine their own daemons, based on the companions in his Dark Materials trilogy.
If I had to have a daemon, it would have to be able to juggle , especially the stream of ideas that never make it out of my brain, the missed opportunities. The ones you think are utterly perfect for about half an hour, when the novelty wears off and it seems trite and dull.
So here’s my octopus in mid juggle. I seem oddly fond of it…
Some tooth fairies are mean
So, I’ve done a deal. By which I mean I’ve sold my soul to the devil. Or rather the tooth fairy. In exchange for additional teeth I don’t need, I am now enslaved to produce a sketch each time a tooth breaks free.
It started as a fun sketch for my two kids when they each lost a tooth. I thought it would make the tooth fairy more fun. And then it became a thing and they all wanted it.
I have five children in the house, aged from 10 years down to 6 months. Granted, the youngest isn’t causing trouble yet, but between them all they’ll gain and lose 100 teeth. Accounting for the ones already fallen before I started this, and the ones I’ve already down, I’m guessing I have another 78 drawings to do over the next 8 years.
There may be no other drawings from me for looooonnnnnggg time.
This one below is the latest, for the 10 year old. Hers are darker and more, well, morose. She is a tween after all. It’s all gone a bit emo…
Happy Mother’s Day sketching
Mum’s can be funny…
…especially when she starts believing she’s an apple tree and takes root in the lounge.
I drew this as a sketch for a book I’ve had knocking about for a while. Shortly after this, mum goes to live in the shed. It’s not the happiest, but I get to play with sad colours… and maybe something nice will happen in the end.
Maybe.
